Cold takes on loot, lore & the grind.
No pre-order hype. No paid scores. Just frost-clear breakdowns of drop rates, patch notes, and the RPGs actually worth your weekend. Published from Mount Pleasant since 2019.
A note from the founder
We started this because the scores felt bought.
I spent six winters writing 9/10s I didn't believe for a big outlet. In 2019 I quit, rented a cold little office on Cambie Street, and started AshenLootDominion to write the reviews I actually wanted to read — the ones that tell you a grind is 40 hours of filler before it gets good.
Every piece here is reader-funded and embargo-free. We buy our own copies, we log our own hours, and we publish the boring truth about loot tables even when the studio would rather we didn't. If a game wastes your time, we'll say so — plainly.

How every review gets made
Four cold passes before a score exists.
No first-impression fluff. A game earns its number by surviving our full pipeline — start to credits, and then some.
Full clear, no shortcuts
We finish the main campaign and a meaningful slice of endgame — minimum 30 logged hours — before a single sentence is written.
Loot & drop-rate audit
We datamine and stress-test economies — grind ceilings, real drop odds, and whether the shop is quietly a slot machine.
Second-set replay
A different editor replays key sections cold to check the first take held up after day-one patches and balance changes.
Score, then defend it
The number ships with a public rationale and a live comment thread — you can challenge us and we'll answer.
The frostbitten crew
Four editors, no publicists.
Small on purpose. Everyone here writes, plays, and answers your comments personally.

CRPG lifer. Will finish a 120-hour JRPG to fact-check one sentence about its final act.

Watch the breakdown
This week: is the grind worth it?
Marcus walks through our full teardown of this season's biggest looter — 14 minutes, no sponsor breaks. Then read what the community said below.
“Bought a game on their word after three outlets gave it a 9. Ashen said ‘great combat, hollow endgame’ — dead accurate. Saved me forty wasted hours.”
“The drop-rate audits are unreal. They caught a stealth economy change a full week before the studio admitted it. This is the only score I trust now.”
